Affiliate Review Sites – Next Google Slap?

I found an interesting thread on Warrior Forum the other day regarding the next Google slap. You can read about it here.

Anyway, according to Harlan the next slap is going to be targeted for affiliate review sites. I know this kinda sucks for those who run some profitable ppc campaigns using the review site model. I myself run some profitable campaigns using one-page review site.

It does make sense though if you think about it. I mean everytime I do a search on Google for something I will find at least 4-5 review sites that are basically fake and have nothing but affiliate links on them. It doesn’t really provide a good user experience which is what Google wants.

But how Google is going to determine which review sites are fake and which are not? I think it’s going to be interesting to see how they manage that.

So what can you do to protect your sites from getting slapped? Well, I think that Google wants to see sites that have useful and legitimate content. They don’t like one-page sites that only try to get the visitor to buy something or fill out a form of some sort.

In my opinion the best thing to do is to build blogs and blog about the niche you are in while running ppc campaigns for products you are promoting. This way when the Googlebot comes to visit your site to check it for quality score, it will see a nice blog with lots of content on it.

You also want to start your link building campaign to let google know that you are serious about your business. Do some press releases and write some good articles for distribution. What you want to do is basically create an authority site in your niche and then run ppc campaigns for your products from that domain. I think the technique where you buy a new domain name and put a one page review on it with some affiliates links and run Adwords campaign hoping for some sales is coming to an end.

Don’t get me wrong, it still works, but for how long? So for now you can just keep milking it for as long as you can and but in the meantime you should start thinking about new concept and possible build authority sites to replace your review pages once the Google slap is unleashed.

It definitely is. There’s no way around it anymore, and I dont think all those free blogger blogs that have two posts will work for much longer either.

The best solution is to really build an “authority” site, like you mentioned: link-built, freshly updated, and growing naturally.

I’m drafting a solution for this issue, but you can read more about cheap ppc tactics at my site, and get an idea of how to get past this.
